Ashburton’s Antique shops are raising awareness about the positive environmental impact of buying Antiques.
As we all become more aware of our carbon footprint and the lasting impact our actions can have on the planet, the traders explain how they are doing their bit.
We all know we should recycle more but Antiques and the part they play are often overlooked. By buying antique, vintage or second-hand you are not only reducing the waste in landfill but buying something with a much smaller carbon footprint than its modern rivals. Take the humble Windsor Chair for example - it would have been hand made 200 years ago by a local craftsman with local timber, cut and gathered by hand. Then turned on a foot-treadle lathe and delivered by horse and cart. And who ever mentioned plastic? What plastic?!
